█▀░░ PsyCZ group was formed in spring 2001 by its first three members ... ░░▀█
█▀░ But as every group grows and gets new members, new people joined PsyCZ ░▀█
█▀░ to help us in our mission. Our main common loved genere was psychedelic ░▀█
█▀░ ... of course, but everone of us likes several more genres. This caused, ░▀█
█▀░ that several members began to demand releasing other music styles such ░▀█
█▀░ as ambient, drum&bass and few more ... So we realized, that our original ░▀█
█▀░ name PsyCZ is a little uncomfortable, because it highlights our psy - ░▀█
█▀░ sight. After few days of debates we decided to found new sub-group ... ░▀█
█▀░ and here we are ... PsyCZ_NP will bring you plenty of non psychedelic ░▀█
█▀░ music ... especially ambient, but some other genres are planned too. ░▀█
█▀░ Why did we decide for non-psy? Changing of the group name isn't possible ░▀█
█▀░ so possibilities we had was only adding a suffix to current group name ░▀█
█▀░░ ... so have chosen non-psy, because it's clearest and most fluent ... ░░▀█

█▀║ Norwegian death-free jazz-electronic band Supersilent began as an ║▀█
█▀║ impromptu jam at the 1997 Bergen Jazz Festival between master ║▀█
█▀║ trumpeter Arve Henriksen, tape experimenter Helge Sten (who also goes ║▀█
█▀║ as Deathprod for solo material), Jarle Vespestad on drums, and Stale ║▀█
█▀║ Storlykken on keyboards. The group decided to continue to play ║▀█
█▀║ together in Helge Sten's studio and recorded endless hours of tape, ║▀█
█▀║ eventually spliced into 1998's 1-3, a three-CD collection of wild, ║▀█
█▀║ percussive free jazz with flourishes of Aphex Twin-like electronics. ║▀█
█▀║ Integral to the band from this time on was their desire to only exist ║▀█
█▀║ as a performing group - they never "write" songs, practice, and barely ║▀█
█▀║ even speak to one another outside of gigs. This release, like all ║▀█
█▀║ others, is without overdubs and with minimal production. ║▀█
█▀║ On 4, the group incorporated the influence of fellow Rune Grammofon ║▀█
█▀║ labelmate Arne Nordheim, an electro-acoustic composer whose ║▀█
█▀║ dark-tinged experiments are a studio controlled kin to Supersilent. ║▀█

█▀║ The follow-up to the introductory package 1-3, 4 is the album that ║▀█
█▀║ established the Norwegian quartet Supersilent as an up-and-coming free ║▀█
█▀║ improv artist, drawing much attention from the magazine The Wire, ║▀█
█▀║ especially. When all young artists were either drawn to lowercase or ║▀█
█▀║ atmospheric experimental electro, the quartet dived into burning-hot ║▀█
█▀║ free improvisation, blending jazz, rock, and electronica idioms with a ║▀█
█▀║ distinctive Scandinavian touch - something in the use of space and the ║▀█
█▀║ field recordings that evokes the mountains, snow, and fjords of ║▀█
█▀║ Norway. As usual, the tracks are numbered instead of titled as to ║▀█
█▀║ obliterate any preconceptions. "4.1" begins atmospherically before the ║▀█
█▀║ drummer starts rolling and pounding. But this introduction comes to an ║▀█
█▀║ abrupt end and almost feels like a false start, a warm-up. "4.2" is ║▀█
█▀║ also mostly atmospheric, but now the E-Bowed electric guitar is more ║▀█
█▀║ prominently featured, along with treated voice samples. Drums ║▀█
█▀║ escalate, synthesizers build tension, and the sonic battle has begun. ║▀█
█▀║ An intentionally sloppier incarnation of Steamboat Switzerland could ║▀█
█▀║ have recorded "4.3." The album's highlight resides in "4.6," a long ║▀█
█▀║ improvisation with many twists, turns, and shifts in dynamics and ║▀█
█▀║ moods. 4 shows Supersilent exploring an unheard-of fusion of free ║▀█
█▀║ styles, sculpting their own niche. Recommended. ║▀█
