│ Now and again young people with critical minds sit in front of a glass of │
│ Sapphire Gin wondering : What does the future of pop music sound like? And what │
│ does it look like? │
│ Well, here is the answer. The future of pop music sounds just like the first │
│ album of SONO û äSolid Stateô. And as the highly awarded German graphic │
│ designer Dirk Rudolph has visualized the sounds of this rather elusive act, the │
│ future of pop music just looks like the cover of äSolid Stateô. │
│ SONO are like a mirror, a surface so to say, in which we recognize ourselves. │
│ Their name, their logo, their music are so puristic, owing so much to the │
│ fundamental elements and so deep at the same time, that it will touch anybody │
│ who is willing to watch und listen. │
│ SONO are so called Advanced Pop, as traditional categories fail to describe │
│ their style. What is Advanced Pop? The easiest way to approach SONO is to │
│ describe what they are not: SONO are not Dance û but they groove and loads of │
│ DJs are exceedingly passionate about their beats. SONO are not Soul û but │
│ they┤ve got it. SONO are not Pop û but their tunes aim directly at your heart │
│ and Lennart A. Salomon┤s voice surely manages to get significant messages │
│ across. SONO are not Minimal Music, that┤s for sure û and yet some of their │
│ patterns make us recall elements of modern classical music. │
│ │
│ SONO - that is producers Florian Sikorski and Martin Weiland and singer Lennart │
│ A. Salomon. Together they have written the 13 songs of their debut album and │
│ recorded it in Hamburg. Every one of them has his own musical history: │
│ Florian Sikorski (born 05.07.1975), a musical editor┤s son from Hamburg, was │
│ confronted with the business at a very early age, but decided to make his own │
│ music. He went to the conservatory and the clubs, worked as a programmer and as │
│ DJ. The ultimate studio know-how he acquired at the SAE and during his advanced │
│ studies to become a sound engineer. In this role he is highly in demand │
│ worldwide and works with producers such as Max Martin, Sam Watters or Kristian │
│ Lundin. │
│ Martin Weiland (born 20.05.1975) started his musical career in a church choir. │
│ At the age of 15 he set off as a DJ, became Resident DJ in the Hamburger │
│ Palladium, later in the Astoria and the äPhonodromeô. Since 1995 he and Florian │
│ Sikorski have been cooperating as producers û first producing remixes, and then │
│ progressing to their own material under the name of SONO. Lennart A. Salomon │
│ (born 17.08.1978) has his roots in classical music û at the age of 6 he took │
│ his first piano lessons, at 13 he went on to the violin and for 7 years he used │
│ to sing in a choir. His extensive experience on stage, his solid guitar │
│ technique and his unique voice are the result of Lennart A. Salomon┤s │
│ activities with several jazz & funk bands. Apart from singing with SONO he is │
│ currently working on his second solo album. │
│ Solid State also contains the first single which immediately became a hit and │
│ topped the Billboard Dance Charts for six weeks û Keep Control. The second │
│ single of the same album called Blame was released in nearly 30 countries. The │
│ third release is 2000 Guns, a masterpiece of deepness. Motto: Reduce to the │
│ max. │
│ The ten other songs of Solid State are as relaxed and casual, which may give │
│ the impression of arrogance but rather is characteristic of great pop music. │
│ Gentle giants like Since You Are Gone, soft sobstuff like Red Sky (where │
│ Lennart A. Salomon sounds like Neil Young) or evil sequence-rockers like Movin │
│ On. One thing is striking: SONO concentrate on the essentials. And there are │
│ only few things which are essential. That is what SONO shows us. │
