interview and cover only notes this one as one-track

It's always a pleasure to have a John Foxx record slip
into my review pile... I still remember as if it were
yesterday when my dad handed me a copy of Foxx's 1980
classic "Metamatic" telling me it was something 'I might
like'. I had never heard anything like it before, these
pristine almost alien sounding vocals layered over the
darkest of analogue synthesized landscapes, a track like
"Underpass" for example in my opinion has never been
bettered. "Sideways" is Foxx's latest collaborative
effort with Louis Gordon and erupted from the same
sessions as "From Trash", and apparently deals with the
heady theme of science fiction. To my mind though it
simply sounds like classic John Foxx - all the
ingredients are still there in droves, cyclic electronic
percussion and sheets of analogue synthwork all
underpinning Foxx's matchless vocals. I don't think it's
just because I'm a huge Foxx fan that I can still
appreciate this, he sounds great and the songs, while not
being incredibly modern or inventive, are there to show
off his talents as a singer. Recent live appearances were
opened by the track "And the World Slides Sideways" (seen
here opening the album) and this sets the scene for what
to expect, classic electro-pop music done slightly
differently, touched by the hand of a master. Added as a
second cd also is a revealing interview from the man
himself about the album "From Trash" which is sure to be
of interest to fans! Recommended.
