DJ Genesis was one of the few female DJs invited to play at the
2001 Detroit Electronic Music Fest (DEMF), as well as at the 2003 &
2004 Movement Festival; She is the only woman featured on the 2004
Movement Festival Compilation. Her excellent mixing skills and
tenacious studio work earned her a slot in the 2003 Red Bull Music
Academy in Cape Town South Africa. Behind the scenes Monica is a
well known graphic and website designer, club promoter, you name
it... She worked for 3 years for the Submerge crew and Underground
Resistance as their webmaster.
She currently has a release on Westend Records, and Realtone
Records and is releasing her latest ep on Women On Wax Records in
the Summer 2006. This fall lookout for a full length!
On this release for Dynamite Soul, Genesis works with percussionist
Craig Huckaby and vocalists Marvin Belton and Miyon.
We reckon the Theo Parrish mix released separately may have
overshadowed this deep li'l gem and the b-side purple rinse of
"Funky 4 U" (Tk 4) is sick, sick, sick...
