Anthony Nicholson has been Ron Trent's musical partner since about
1991.Together they have released a stream of classy 12 inches on
their jointly owned label Claireaudience, and several cult cuts on
Prescription. This CD contains 8 tracks from 2 EPs released before
and is an Afro-Latin workout with drums courtesy of Steve Cobb, the
main drummer from Roy Ayers' Ubiquity.
Anthony Nicholson's compositions are an expression of a profound and
original sound that leaves an indelible imprint on DJs and music
lovers alike.
Anthony Nicholson's introduction to the music of artists like Steve
Wonder, Brian Eno and Queen at an early age built him a solid musical
foundation that developed into a discriminating taste in the music he
collected, and later played. Anthonys first opportunity to hone his
craft was at the renowed "Edge OF The Looking Glass" club in Chicago.
Music pioneers, such as Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles were in the
midst defining of what we now call "house music". The need of any
creative person to evolve prompted Anthony's next progression in his
career, teaming up in 1992 with famed Chicago DJ, Lee Collins, to
produce his first record for Movin Records in New Jersey.
A producer and songwriter was born! In 1993, Anthony began an
experimental partnership with producer Ron Trent, with the intention
of bringing real songs back to the foreground of dance music. As part
of a collective known as Urban Sound Gallery, Anthony brought to
fruition several writing and production concepts with songs like
"Ncameu" and "Ebony Angel" which both became instant classics in the
dance music community. Before the dissolution of the partnership in
1998, Anthony participated in remixes for artists such as, Groove
Collective, reggae legend Mutubaruka and Urban Soul along with
co-producing a USG album called "African Blues".
Anthony Nicholson's productions are boundless! His catalog of work
has been featured on several leading independents like Guidance
Records, King Street Sounds, Irma Records, Peace Frog Records,
Distance-UK, and Metaphor. Anthony has also done remixes for "Bossa
Mundial", a newly released album on Wave. Also look for two original
songs for the New Latinaires series on Ubiquity. In 1999, Anthony
collaborated with legendary percussionist Steve Kwane Cobb, who
played with jazz greats Ramsey Lewis and vibe maestro Roy Ayers has
made an impression with some top DJs like Francois Kevorkian.
Expanding his horizons has led Anthony into exciting new territory,
remixing and creating original production for Germany's latest
innovators Jazzanova as well as completing a successful DJ tour in
Germany playing with musician/dj, Rainer Truby at the famous
"rootdown" club.
Still Anthony Nicholson's most impressive accomplishment is the
shaping of his label Clairaudience. Since it's inception in 1997,
Clairaudience Records has consistantly stunned the house music world
with its refreshing and timeless sound. A sound that has won the
support of worldwide DJs icons like Ashley Beedle, Louie Vega, Joe
Clausell and Giles Peterson. Clairaudience is pushing ahead in the
new millenium with a compilation of material that has been released
on the label as well as original works from other musically diverse
producers.
Realizing a seemingly impossible dream has molded and brought forth a
well-respected tireless disciple for the movement of quality dance
music. Anthony Nicholson looks forward to shaping the future with his
music and the collaboration of other talented forces.
