| | All I have to say about this one... | |
| | | |
| | __FUCK__STAKKA__AND__SKYNET!__ | |
| | | |
| | You want to remix a classic house tune? More | |
| | specifically, you want to remix one of the | |
| | BEST fucking house tunes ever made? Listen | |
| | up -- don't turn it into a snoozefest, like | |
| | they did on the second Retro release... no, | |
| | what you do is you take a cue from Mega City | |
| | 2 here, you take the original and you make it | |
| | your own. The title track on this EP, | |
| | "London To Essex In 3 Hours", is an inspired | |
| | reworking of Kariya's "Let Me Love You For | |
| | Tonite", one of the defining house tunes of | |
| | the Summer Of Love. By speeding the vocals | |
| | up and completely changing the melodies and | |
| | instrumentation, they make it into a brand | |
| | new anthem all over again. This is the way | |
| | it should be done -- and that goes for ALL | |
| | you producers out there looking to make a | |
| | quick buck off of descrating, er, I mean | |
| | remixing any classic. | |
| | | |
| | While I'm on a rant, I'd just like to remind | |
| | you producers (and not just Stakka & Skynet | |
| | here) that, no, really, it IS okay to have a | |
| | drum loop be longer than 4 beats. Don't | |
| | be afraid to cut up the beat -- you're not | |
| | going to ruin the groove by mashing it up | |
| | for a few bars! Better than than falling | |
| | asleep on the dancefloor! If I wanted to | |
| | listen to the same exact beat over and over | |
| | again, I'd be listening to progressive house. | |
| | And don't forget, they call them breakbeats | |
| | for a reason... "boom-tss-chk - - - boom-chk" | |
| | is NOT a breakbeat, you retards. Dig out | |
| | those old soul 45's and SAMPLE YOUR ASSES | |
| | OFF. Don't fucking use the presets on your | |
| | drum machine. YOU ARE EVERYTHING THAT'S | |
| | WRONG WITH THE SCENE TODAY. Make drum & | |
| | bass, not snooze and snore! | |
| | | |
| | ...But I digress. | |
| | | |
| | The flipside, "Darker Side Of Evil", is all | |
| | ruffneck jungle tekno biznizz. Taking some | |
| | samples from the movie "Predator 2" ("the | |
| | spirit world... the other side", "this is | |
| | Dreadman...", "you can't see the eyes of the | |
| | demon 'til him come callin'...") this track | |
| | became anthemic in its own right, but 180 | |
| | degrees away from the hands-in-the-air vibe | |
| | of "London To Essex". It later appeared on | |
| | the classic React compilation "The Dark | |
| | Side", alongside such luminaries as | |
| | Metalheads' "Terminator" and Doc Scott's | |
| | "Here Comes The Drumz". | |
| | | |
| | After two releases on Hear Dis Records, Mega | |
| | City 2 went on to push their sound further | |
| | into the realm of jungle for the Extra | |
| | Terrestrial label -- well worth checking out | |
| | sometime if you like what you're hearing. | |
| | | |
| | Hold tight, hardcore massive! More is on the | |
| | way... for those that know. | |
| | | |
| | (All apologies to Stakka and Skynet. You're | |
| | just an easy target, that's all.) | |
| | | |

| This release may contain copyrighted material, however SOUR guarantees |
| that this material was at least available to one person "on the street" |
| and that the possession of this material is in no way privileged. |
| |
| SOUR has been releasing good quality drum'n'bass, jungle & oldskool rips to |
| the internet drum'n'bass public since summer 1999. Originally a small |
| operation, we have now reached levels of international acclaim. |
| |
| SOUR is dedicated to both the availability and promotion of music to the |
| public, and our rips are intended to reflect these ideals. Specifically: |
| |
| . SOUR is dedicated to the promotion of new music that is currently |
| available to buy. If you like something you hear, you are obliged to |
| attempt to purchase an original copy. |
| |
| . SOUR is dedicated to the promotion of old music that may no longer be |
| available to buy. |
| |
| . SOUR is dedicated to the expansion and infiltration of drum'n'bass |
| worldwide! We provide a service where none is available, specifically in |
| many remote countries where traditional distributors can not afford to |
| target. Also, the availability of drum'n'bass in an easily accessible |
| form expands the potential for real world sales to people who may not |
| otherwise have considered buying drum'n'bass. |
| |
| . SOUR is dedicated to the expansion of the online and offline real world |
| scenes. With more listeners enjoying what they hear, clubs and venues can |
| only expect MORE people to attend events; DJ's can only expect MORE |
| people to pay to see THEM. |
| |
| By accident of today's current real world distribution arrangements, many |
| artists will find that SOUR releases IMPROVE their real world sales; |
| especially for items only on vinyl. This is the basis upon which SOUR |
| operates. |
