| | The second release by Foul Play, and their | |
| | last for fledgling label Oblivion Records | |
| | before trading up to Moving Shadow and | |
| | dropping anthems like "Open Your Mind" and | |
| | "Finest Illusion" (on MS sublabel Section 5). | |
| | However, all the early Foul Play stuff is | |
| | highly sought after, and for good reason -- | |
| | it is positively wicked. This EP contains | |
| | four tracks, the A-side with "Survival" and | |
| | "Dubbing You", both in their original forms | |
| | here (they would receive remixes on Foul Play | |
| | Vol. 3), while on the B-side there are two | |
| | revisited tunes from the very first Foul Play | |
| | EP, "Ricochet" and "Feel The Vibe". | |
| | | |
| | "Survival" is the one most people go for, | |
| | with its slamming, nonstop beats and subtle | |
| | sampling of Simone's "My Family Depends On | |
| | Me", a classic Strictly Rhythm house tune | |
| | that's been used in many a hardcore classic. | |
| | "Dubbing You" is another top tune, and while | |
| | it's available in a somewhat edited form on | |
| | the compilation "Welcome To The Future", this | |
| | is the full six minutes of madness with the | |
| | huge synth pitch workouts. | |
| | | |
| | The flipside remixes start off with "Ricochet | |
| | (No Stopping The Remix)", and at first listen | |
| | everything sounds to be hideously out of key | |
| | with each other, but after a minute, they all | |
| | come into focus, sounding very much like a | |
| | precursor of what was to come with "Open Your | |
| | Mind". It all winds down with "Feel The Vibe | |
| | (Again)", a Jungle-Brothers-sampling monster | |
| | of a tune, light years ahead of the original | |
| | version. Nary a bad tune in the bunch -- | |
| | unsurprising, considering it usually trades | |
| | for well over 50 quid on sites such as eBay | |
| | and the specialty dance vinyl finders. | |
| | | |
| | Hold it down, hardcore massive! More is on | |
| | the way, without further delay. | |
