| | Here's a total underground classic for y'all. | |
| | If you were out raving during 1993, you | |
| | probably heard someone drop this song which | |
| | always just got referred to as "The Godfather | |
| | Tune". The artist behind that was none other | |
| | than Naz (AKA Naz), label owner of Deja Vu | |
| | and 786 Records. With only 23 releases on | |
| | the Deja Vu label in the span of less than | |
| | three years, their output was prolific but | |
| | mostly ignored by the majority of DJs in | |
| | favor of the more well-known labels such as | |
| | Suburban Base or Moving Shadow. However, | |
| | some tunes come straight out of left field | |
| | and knock you for a blinder, and "Organised | |
| | Crime" is one of those. Raw, pure energy | |
| | distilled into 5 and a half minutes of killer | |
| | breaks and razor-edged synths. Both the | |
| | original and the "Killer Mix" on the flip | |
| | side are excellent. Also appearing on here | |
| | is another remix of "Started Again", a track | |
| | which has appeared on two other releases on | |
| | the Deja Vu label (DJV017 and DJV017R), as | |
| | well as a release on its sister label 786 | |
| | Records (786-010). | |

| | You'll notice how so many samples seem to be | |
| | familiar in these tracks -- while the most | |
| | obvious in there is the Godfather theme, and | |
| | Al Pacino's passionate reading of "When I | |
| | thought I was out... they pulled me back in", | |
| | you'll also hear samples taken directly from | |
| | other popular artists at the time such as | |
| | Altern 8 ("armageddon!") and Acen (the entire | |
| | breakbeat in "Started Again" was taken from | |
| | "Trip II The Moon", and the "go insane" was | |
| | also used by him in "Close Your Eyes"). | |
| | | |
| | Fun fact of the day: Deja Vu was also the | |
| | label that gave Messiah their start. After | |
| | recording a short two tracker for DJV005, | |
| | "Prince Of Darkness" and "I Am Evil", they | |
| | managed to get signed to the Kickin label | |
| | where they churned out subversive number one | |
| | hits in the UK such as "There Is No Law" and | |
| | "Temple Of Dreams". | |
