        | | selling fizzy drinks and toilet cleaner. | |
        | | However, as it has grown and split into | |
        | | various styles, many people have become | |
        | | disenchanted with the music and the scene as | |
        | | a whole. Originally, the music was | |
        | | inspirational and groundbreaking, whereas now | |
        | | the majority of dance music seems to conform | |
        | | to a format and become conservative, and | |
        | | worst of all, boring. The last few years | |
        | | have seen people from all genres looking back | |
        | | to the oldskool for inspiration, and seeing | |
        | | what was right and what went wrong. As | |
        | | expected, the major labels have picked up on | |
        | | this, and now there is a flood of oldskool | |
        | | LPs, each with basically the same tracks on | |
        | | them. Although the anthems featured on these | |
        | | LPs are all superb, what really glued the | |
        | | scene together was the high quality and | |
        | | innovative tracks between them, many of which | |
        | | have disappeared as time has passed, and are | |
        | | now only remembered on old mix tapes, and in | |
        | | the hearts and minds of the people who | |
        | | experienced those golden years. This LP | |
        | | contains 12 of these underground anthems, in | |
        | | their original, unedited format. Many of the | |
        | | featured artists went on to be successful in | |
        | | their own right. DJ Ham teamed up with DJ | |
        | | Brisk to run the pioneering Next Generation | |
        | | Records, as well as using the name | |
        | | "Powerhouse" to great success with DJ Poosie. | |
        | | Luna-C developed various drum'n'bass labels, | |
        | | such as Influential Records, and now also | |
        | | runs KFA, a label dedicated to new oldskool. | |
        | | DJ Force and the Evolution became Force and | |
        | | Styles, and produced a number of huge hits on | |
        | | their label, UK Dance. | |
        | | | |
        | | All of these artists have tracks on this LP, | |
        | | and started their careers with Kniteforce | |
        | | Records. Most of these tracks have been | |
        | | unavailable on vinyl in the original format | |
        | | since they were first pressed, which | |
        | | inevitably makes them collectible... most | |
        | | change hands for excessive amounts of money. | |
        | | | |
        | | So take a trip down memory lane... and | |
        | | remember, a wise man once said... "If you | |
        | | don't know your past, you don't know your | |
        | | future"... | |
        | | | |
        | | - Chris Howell (Kniteforce / KFA)" | |
        | | | |
        | | Getting on with it, as if the info here | |
        | | wasn't long enough, here's some background on | |
        | | the tracks appearing on this compilation. | |
        | | Except where marked, all tracks appear in | |
        | | their original mix. | |
        | | | |
        | | 1. Luna C - Edge Of Madness (Sublove Mix) | |
        | | Taken from the very first Kniteforce | |
        | | release, catalog number KF001. "Edge | |
        | | Of Madness" began life as a track he | |
        | | did for the Smart E's group (they of | |
        | | "Sesame's Treet" fame) entitled | |
        | | "Intruder Alert". It was later redone | |
        | | by Luna C himself, and given a new remix | |
        | | by Sublove. For those who don't know, | |
        | | Sublove was two folks who are now big | |
        | | names in the electronic scene: Jody, | |
        | | of the progressive group Way Out West, | |
        | | and DJ Die, known mainly for his work | |
        | | with Roni Size's "Reprazent" collective. | |
        | | The same EP featured the original | |
        | | version of "Insanity Clause", which has | |
        | | recently been updated for the KFA label. | |
        | | | |
        | | 2. DJ Evil and DJ Luna C - The Real | |
        | | (New Oldskool Mix) | |
        | | Brand new production from Luna C in | |
        | | association with the Japanese DJ Evil, | |
        | | who has been influential in the hardcore | |
        | | scene in Japan, running his own label | |
        | | 'Fever Ray', as well as remixing tunes | |
        | | for such other notables as Scott Brown | |
        | | and Jimmy J. | |

        | | number KF005 is one of the most | |
        | | endearing tracks on the label, due to | |
        | | its catchy "going out of my head" vocals | |
        | | sampled from Colonel Abrams's mid-80's | |

        | | extended due to a constant supply of | |
        | | remixes, as well. The first one was on | |
        | | Kniteforce KF008, a split EP with a | |

        | | the Kniteforce Special Edition series | |

        | | courtesy of Ham & D. This also later | |
        | | appeared on the "Future Sound Of | |
        | | Hardcore" compilation. Most recently, | |
        | | Alk-E-D revisited the track himself for | |
        | | the KFA label, on KFA006 "The True Skool | |

        | | catalog number on this one is KF021R. | |
        | | It later received a remix by label | |
        | | stalwarts Future Primitive for KF030, | |
        | | this time utilizing a vocal sample from | |
        | | Rhythm Quest's "Closer To All Your | |
        | | Dreams", and while that one's more | |
        | | fondly remembered, it's nice to hear | |

        | | 7. Trip 2 - The Erb (Special Toke Mix) | |
        | | Huge tune from this Kniteforce crew | |
        | | side project, consisting of Luna C, | |
        | | Spencer, and Bull-E. The "Trip" | |
        | | releases were done as departures from | |
        | | the typical Kniteforce label style, | |
        | | and where the first Trip release ("The | |
        | | Snowball") was done in serious darkside | |
        | | mode, this one is as ragga as they come. | |
        | | The "Special Toke" mix from KF015R is | |
        | | featured here, but the original was | |
        | | released on a green 10" as KFO10, as | |
        | | well as having another remix on the | |
        | | original KF015. There's also just | |
        | | been a new remix of this for KFA, | |
        | | on catalog number KFA007, entitled the | |
        | | "Top Budz" remix. Cheeky, innit? | |
        | | | |
        | | 8. 2 Experience - Sweet Dreams | |
        | | Subtitled "Do What You Want", this | |
        | | piano-heavy track from the later phase | |
        | | of the original Kniteforce releases | |
        | | featured Cru-L-T in a production role. | |
        | | Not too much else to say about this | |
        | | one, as they never released another | |
        | | single, leaving KF036 as their only | |
        | | Kniteforce output. | |
        | | | |

        | | Massive hardcore business here. The | |
        | | original of this track was ruff enough, | |
        | | and then Vibes & Wishdokta (the creators | |
        | | of the classic "Obsession (Music's So | |

        | | Choice fame) turned it up another notch. | |
        | | The original release was KF018, and | |
        | | the remix was (predictably) KF018R. | |
        | | | |

        | | Now here's a rarity for you -- never | |
        | | properly released in the past, this | |
        | | was only available as a very limited | |
        | | white label with the catalogue number | |
        | | of BARRY01. It was later given a remix | |
        | | in 1997 for KF048, but the original is | |
        | | the better version. Enjoy it! | |

        | | "Piano Progression", as well as the | |

        | | has it that for the 10th anniversary | |
        | | of Kniteforce, there'll be a brand new | |
        | | version, mysteriously titled "Piano | |
        | | Progression X"! Oddly enough, for a | |
        | | song that's considered to be a template | |
        | | for the rest of the happy hardcore that | |
        | | followed, the song isn't very "happy" | |
        | | sounding at all -- rather melancholy, | |
        | | but hey, who am I to complain. :) | |
        | | Coincidentally, the sample from NASA | |
        | | that is used in this track was also used | |
        | | in a song he recorded for the Smart E's | |
        | | album, "Apollo (Lunar Mix)", and used | |
        | | almost exactly the same way. | |
        | | | |
        | | 12. Poosie & Cru-L-T - Hear Me Hear Me | |
        | | Finally, rounding things out with one | |
        | | of my own personal favorites, this | |
        | | track was the flipside to "Knite In | |
        | | Paradise" on KF009. Utilizing those | |
        | | chipmunk vocals to near perfection, | |
        | | this one drops all pretense of happy | |
        | | vibes and goes straight for the jugular | |
        | | on the wicked bassline and breakbeats. | |
        | | Check the drop at the 2 and 1/2 minute | |
        | | mark -- absolute class. This is one | |
        | | of those tunes that sends shivers up | |
        | | your spine every time you hear it, | |
        | | and really, that's what makes the best | |
        | | tunes the best. | |

        | | As you can see, an excellent compilation all | |
        | | around from the Kniteforce posse. Volume two | |
        | | is on the way, which will be featuring | |
        | | another 12 classic cuts from the good old | |

        | | release (and other KF / KFA releases), be | |
        | | sure to support them by buying the actual | |

        | | it's going to be a hunt -- but well worth it | |

| By accident of today's current real world distribution arrangements, many |
| artists will find that SOUR releases IMPROVE their real world sales; |
| especially for items only on vinyl. This is the basis upon which SOUR |
| operates. |
