No longer a teen idol, but an assured, mature
vocalist Donny Osmond is like a fine wine, he just
gets better and better. His album Somewhere In Time
showed a maturity nobody thought this ex-teen pin-up
would ever muster. And yet, somehow Osmond has
managed it.
The dozen tracks on this album represent Donny's
favourite love songs from this special decade, and
he's put his heart and soul into them. The album
starts strongly with I Can See Clearly Now, sung
confidently in a 'reggae style', and he's done a
great job. After such a powerful start you'd expect
the album to go downhill, but no; the standard
continues with such classic love songs as Sometimes
When We Touch and Oh Girl.
How Long just begs to be released as a single and on
Mandy, Osmond out-Manilows Manilow!
Thoughtful arrangements, with energy where
appropriate, combined with emotive vocals surely
confirm that the older Donny is a class act for the
easy-listening generation.
