Allusondrugs are a band out of time. Or maybe they are at the resurgence of
some new rock scene. It's difficult to tell but what isn't is that this band
are going to be rather popular. It's that sort of music that grabs the kids
and allows them to become firmly entrenched in the live music scene and
become perennial festival favourites.
This is the sound of meat and potatoes rock and roll at it's most bouncy and
even if you are not a fan of this sort of music you can't fail to be pulled
along for the ride. The sheer exuberance that is on offer throughout this EP
make it an enjoyable 30 minutes out of your day although there isn't really
much of substance to make you want to return again and again.
But that's not really the point and this is music of the now . The chaotic
'I'm Your Man' is delivered with all the requisite sing-a-long moments before
'Ted, What's the Porn Like In Heaven' ups the ante with it's urge to
replicate any number of 90's rock bands. Delightfully tuneful, Allusondrugs
drive their music straight into your temples with added doses of sugar
boosted energy to keep you flying.
'Cherry Pie' is rather fantastic as it stretches out into some sort of drone
like epic by the end giving another, more interesting side of the band. Once
again there is no escape from the sheer joy and by the time the semi-ballad
'Nervous' reaches you, you're quite prepared for the breather.
It's not too bad either for all it's generic rock shapes and highlights the
great vocal interplay between the band members. This is let down by the
rather boring 'Sunset Yellow' though which although delivered with aplomb
just becomes yet another song. There are some nice tempo changes but it
ultimately ends up like some long lost Feeder song.
Final song Thingio' starts with a doom like feel and is the heaviest thing
here. It chugs along as heartfelt vocals chime out amongst the swirling
guitars and little flashes of melody and almost becomes some sort of desert
rock anthem. It's the best song on here by far and offers an intriguing
glimpse at what this band may become.
So, a rather joyous affair and the sound of a band really enjoying what they
do. They're going to be everywhere soon so if you want to get in their first
then listen to this. What it lacks in substance it more than makes up in
exuberance and after all this is only rock and roll. Why can't a band have a
bit of fun. And just maybe, as the final freak out at the end of 'Thingio'
grabs you, you may start looking forward to more releases from this band.

If you haven t heard of Allusondrugs before then the best way I can describe
them to you is, imagine if Nirvana were a Garage/Post-Punk band from Leeds,
that s Allusondrugs. Allusondrugs new EP shows that this band can go a long
way if they stick to this retro and unique style that they ve developed.
Some songs from this six track EP such as I m Your Man and Thingio
display the band at their very best. These songs include infectious and
memorable lyrics and choruses which when mixed with Allusondrugs
Post-Punk/Grunge sound it creates some amazing sounding music. These two
songs are by far the crown jewels of the album.
The second song on the album, Ted, What s The Porn Like In Heaven? , is a
lot better than I expected it to be after seeing the title but, it s not the
best song on the album by a long shot. This song is a mix of some 70 s-style
London Punk vocals, deep Nu Wave background play and lyrics that were
inspired by God knows what. Don t make Jesus cry; Hey! My friend Ted
watching porn up in heaven ... that s about a minutes worth of lyrics.
Cherry Pie is a classic sounding Garage/Nu Wave song but, I m glad to
report that the lyrics actually make sense... unlike Ted .
The fourth song, Nervous , clearly presents Allusondrugs exceptional
ability of writing and performing progressive rock songs, I was very
impressed with this tracks lyrics, pace and delivery. Sunset Yellow is the
slowest song on the EP but still has a strong, high tempo chorus to make this
song one of the albums best.
In summary, this is a fantastic album by a promising, young and talented
British band that could take the world of rock by storm.

Allusondrugs are a 5 piece band from Castelford, Leeds. Having formed in
July 2012, in their two short years as a band they have toured relentlessly
and gained a strong following in the meantime.
The result of all their hard work and graft is the release of their
self-titled debut EP.
The EP itself has a very 90's feel to it and it is clear that the band has a
wide variety of influence.
In just 6 tracks Allusondrugs provide a sterling account of themselves and
what they are all about.
Their music is energetic and varied, both in sound and tempo. The ever
changing styles of the songs is their best asset as it makes for an
interesting listen and provides a 'something for everyone' appeal.
The best example of this is tracks 3 and 4; "Cherry Pie" is a harsh,
in-your-face anthem based around the use of heavy bass and guitar with a
whole lot of gain. The vocals are outlayed over the top with the song having
a real Gish(The Smashing Pumpkins) or In Utero(Nirvana) feel to it. Directly
after that, "Nervous" offers up a completely different output. Everything
about the sound of Nervous is grunge. From the laid back vocals to the dreamy
solo textured throughout, they have this sound down to a tee.
The best way to describe Allusondrugs self-titled EP is a complete
rollercoaster of emotion and muscianship. Throughout my writing of this
review my opinions in terms of who they sound like changed over and over
again. I began to think Nirvana, then Smashing Pumpkins and after hearing the
last two tracks i heard a lot of Brand New influence. But ultimately, i could
not nail it down to just one band. Which in its self is a compliment to
Allusondrugs. This is a bold EP and one that i am so glad they made on their
terms. You can tell this band is a tight group as they are so in sync and
know exactly what works for them and whilst pushing the boundaries, they know
their limits and know how they want to sound(even if it it bloody
hard for a reviewer to figure out!).
Overall, this EP offers nothing but promise and because of its awesome
instrumentation and flow fused with memorable sing-a-long moments this
promises to be a starting point for what is to be a very interesting and
promising journey for this band.

To a lot of people, grunge is like disco, confined firmly to a specific time
period and not relevant to anyone outside of it. West Yorkshire based quintet
Allusondrugs are not those people. And each of the six tracks on their debut
EP makes that abundantly clear.
Opener I m Your Man is all hazy guitar work and thumping drums, with some
nice male and female vocal layering. There s prominent, warm bass tones that
drive the song, a buzzy guitar overlay and an easy-going, positive tone that
holds through even as the bass escalates into dirty fuzz. Ted, What s the
Porn Like in Heaven? has a slightly more aggressive, meaner edge, with raw
(almost screamed) vocals and some excellent drum fills along some dual guitar
harmonies. Gang vocals also make an appearance, and the track closes out with
a slightly darker tint.
Skipping ahead, Nervous stands out a little more than the previous. There s
a heady dose of psychedelia among the single strummed chords and double vocal
lines, a frank honesty in the lyrics, a bigger and more epic scope and some
clear Placebo influences in the mix. Sunset Yellow kicks in with a drum
roll and a grooving, moody bassline. The prominence of the vocals, rim-shots
and delicate, shimmering guitars are all a bit Smashing Pumpkins, which the
soaring, layered vocals reinforce.
Closer Thingio starts out with pacey, hi-hat orientated drums and a dirty
bassline before the guitars mesh in seamlessly. Things slow down to a
mid-tempo shuffle with big, fuzzy chords and some delicate vocal layers that
peel off into a simplistic, uber-grunge breakdown. Things end with some
weird, modified vocals and an almost doomy chord progression.
This is a strong first effort from a band who are already very sure of
themselves and their sound. It evokes summer evenings when it s too damn hot
to make sense of the world but you are perfectly okay with your angst. With
their surprisingly easy to listen to mix of grunge, psych and shoegaze,
Allusondrugs are ones to watch, with your ears.
