Release Notes:
The original debut album from this great Finnish folk-ensemble (these songs, in
different arrangements have appeared on other albums as well, still, this is the
original edition). Bitrates are real low, nothing u can do about them :x
Some stuff from the booklet:
"Initially the group was called, believe or not, JΣykkΣ LeipΣ, "Stiff Bread"
(that perplexing Finnish humour again!). In contrast to the implications of that
most unfortunate moniker, the band was known for forging new paths in the world
of Finnish folk music, boldly diving into musical streams; taking influences
from the "art" music, having fun with the occassional schlager and more.
Originally a septet, born in the hallowed halls of the Sibelius Academy Folk
Music Department, the line-up included singers Sanna Kurki-Suonio and Tellu
Paulasto, who later left for Sweden to join Hedningarna. Today, the group, with
the more reasonable name of Loituma (don't ask!), continues as a quartet, with
the original attitudes and principles firmly in place: the uncomprimising,
contemporary approach to Finnish folk music and the exploratory creative
processes that provide spiritual nourishment."
