▓████▓▌ About Chris Rea ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Chris Rea was born in 1951 and released his first ▓▌
▓████▓▌ album, 'Whatever happened to Benny Santini', in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ 1978. Chris only picked up the guitar when he was ▓▌
▓████▓▌ 21, inspired by Charlie Patton and later slide ▓▌
▓████▓▌ guitar legends such as Ry Cooder. Over the past ▓▌
▓████▓▌ twenty years, Chris has been one of the music ▓▌
▓████▓▌ industry's most productive and consistent artists, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ famous for his gravelly voice and respected for his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ crisp and precise slide guitar technique. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ After a serious illness over the past two years, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Chris has recently launched his latest album, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ 'Dancing down the Stony Road'. The album goes back ▓▌
▓████▓▌ to Chris' original musical passion, the Delta ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Blues.s ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌

▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Chris Rea set to release "career defining" blues ▓▌
▓████▓▌ double album, 'Dancing Down the Stony Road', in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ September. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Release to be supported by TV documentary, DVD and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Tour dates. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ In the summer of 2000 with a sell out tour and a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ remix of "On The Beach" in the charts Chris Rea was ▓▌
▓████▓▌ told he was suffering from an illness that would ▓▌
▓████▓▌ end his career and possibly his life. Whilst lying ▓▌
▓████▓▌ in hospital he realised that he had not made his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ final album and wanted a work that he could be ▓▌
▓████▓▌ judged on. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Set for release in September, "Dancing Down the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Stony Road" is that album. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "If I get through this," thought Chris, "I'm going ▓▌
▓████▓▌ to write the album to go on my headstone if ▓▌
▓████▓▌ something terrible should happen. The influences ▓▌
▓████▓▌ that got me in to music are what I want emphasised ▓▌
▓████▓▌ on this album." ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Following his lengthy road to recovery he headed ▓▌
▓████▓▌ off to Miraval studios in Provence where he had ▓▌
▓████▓▌ previously recorded some of his biggest albums and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ set to work on the production of what is perhaps ▓▌
▓████▓▌ his most heartfelt project to date and perhaps most ▓▌
▓████▓▌ surprisingly, a blues album. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Given everything that I had gone through I felt if ▓▌
▓████▓▌ anyone had a right to make a blues album it was ▓▌
▓████▓▌ me." ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ It was the first blues album Chris had ever ▓▌
▓████▓▌ recorded and charts the roots of both his own ▓▌
▓████▓▌ musical style and the development of the blues from ▓▌
▓████▓▌ its Mississippi roots up to the industrial ▓▌
▓████▓▌ heartland of the north. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ In many ways Chris always meant to record blues ▓▌
▓████▓▌ tracks at the outset of his career but in the same ▓▌
▓████▓▌ way as fate had him becoming a vocalist when he ▓▌
▓████▓▌ didn't see himself as one, the speed of his success ▓▌
▓████▓▌ put his original writing style on hold. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Although setting him on the road to huge sales of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ 25 million albums Chris' original Grammy nominated ▓▌
▓████▓▌ hit "Fool (if you think it's over)" was released at ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the height of punk and gave him in his own words a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "tie and cardigans" image. Yet the original version ▓▌
▓████▓▌ as written by Chris was written with Al Green in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ mind and his vocal style was influenced by the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ emotional pain of the blues great Charley Patton. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "It wasn't just his voice," explains Chris, "but ▓▌
▓████▓▌ also on those early blues records the sound of the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ bottleneck or slide guitar which gave true ▓▌
▓████▓▌ expression. I immediately went and bought a blues ▓▌
▓████▓▌ guitar." ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ With the gathering of his musicians at Miraval most ▓▌
▓████▓▌ of whom had worked together with Chris for many ▓▌
▓████▓▌ years, the expectation was high. This was only ▓▌
▓████▓▌ added to further with a gathering of accordions, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Madagascan bass players and banjo players. In many ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ways it was a menagerie of blues exponents. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Together they embarked on the problem of creating ▓▌
▓████▓▌ an album with state of the art technology yet ▓▌
▓████▓▌ giving it "a homespun back-lot studio feel of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Louisville or Memphis." ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ The result is as emotional as it is the defining ▓▌
▓████▓▌ album of Chris' career. Achieving all he set out to ▓▌
▓████▓▌ achieve over two discs with all the key moments in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ it's creation being captured for a forthcoming TV ▓▌
▓████▓▌ documentary and DVD release. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ Easy Rider: The nickname for the night nurse who ▓▌
▓████▓▌ bought the heavy morphine based painkillers. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Stony Road: Inspired by a German fan that had been ▓▌
▓████▓▌ hit with terrible medical problems and subsequently ▓▌
▓████▓▌ became inspirational in Chris' long and difficult ▓▌
▓████▓▌ recovery. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Dancing the Blues Away: Classic delta rhythm for ▓▌
▓████▓▌ having a good time. Cajun/ New Orleans origin with ▓▌

▓████▓▌ Burning Feet: Century old Senegalese rhythm for a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ restless soul. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Mississippi 2: Rhythm is said to be the original ▓▌
▓████▓▌ 'blues-shuffle', inspired by the rhythm of the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ rails. The words are about the massive spirit of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ blues/gospel, reaching across the airwaves to a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ young boy in the north of England. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Slow Dance: It's a song that reminds Chris of his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ mother who used to play 'triple-stride' piano, and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ her influence on him. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ When the Good Lord Talked to Jesus ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌

▓████▓▌ So Lonely ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌

▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Sun is Rising: Inspired by a visit to a Gospel ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Church in the Caribbean. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ Got to be Moving On: Paying homage to the roots of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Motown. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ track performed without rehearsal. ▓▌
