from Boomkat:
DonÆt blame me for this û IÆm not Machinefabriek I promise, he isnÆt a covert Boomkat operative working
under a false Dutch nameà but still, another week and the super-prolific artist has sent us yet another
gorgeously packaged, gorgeously produced, super-limited disc. IÆve had my theories about his
productiveness before, but as each week goes by I am still startled by the guyÆs sheer volume of quality
material, and æStofstukÆ is no different. Released on a business card shaped cdr (similar to the lovely
æChinese Unpopular SongÆ), this is an introductory piece of sorts released as a precursor to an imminent
remix album where Rutger Zuydervelt has asked a gang of artists he respects and admires to rework
æStofstukÆ. Artists confirmed include Peter Rehberg, Frans de Waard, Carsten Nicolai, Xela, Greg Haines,
Kim Cascone, The North Sea, Julien Neto and many many more û and the source for each track was this
five and a half minute piece. Recorded this April (how quick is this turnaround then?) using a singing bowl
to procure gloriously deep almost synthesized sounding tones, Zuydervelt has come up with maybe one of
his most meditative tracks to date. Gone is the abrasive noise of many of his other releases to make way
for a Tibetan, ritualistic sounding piece of structured ambience. As vinyl crackles away in the background
different layers of singing tones and thick, deep bass (this nearly destroyed my speakers at home so
watch out!) drift over each other to create a truly remarkable piece of work. If this is any indicator of the
quality of the remixes to come then we are in for quite a treat, IÆm dying to work out exactly how
ZuyderveltÆs sound will translate when in the hands of these very different artists but for now IÆm happy to
make do with the fantastic original. As usual û be quick, because these ALWAYS go very fast, and we
have only 50 copies.
