This second Body & Soul mix from Wave is even better than the first
in its ability to capture the spirit, love and energy of the famed
New York dance spot for which it is named, mostly because of its
strong and diverse track selection. Mixed by the club's 3 resident
DJs, Joe Claussell, Danny Krivit, and Wave's own Francois Kevorkian,
the 12 song continuous set opens with the mournful atmosphere of
Cesaria Evora's "Sangue de Beirona" and moves through such signature
Body & Soul cuts as "Love & Respect" by the Carlos Sanchez Movement,
bubbly WMC99 anthem "He Is The Joy" by Donna Allen, and Mateo &
Matos' funky "NY Style," ending with Abstract Truth's beautiful "We
Had A Thing." The distinctly downtempo d&b-tinged mix of "I Am The
Black Gold of the Sun" by Nuyorican Soul featuring Jocelyn Brown
makes for a somewhat surprising entry, especially after the feel-good
house frenzy of "He Is The Joy," but segues like that are exactly
what Body & Soul and its masterful DJs are all about. It doesn't have
to be beatmixed, and it better not be all the same style of music;
it's definitely not about keeping a constant 132 BPM going on the
dancefloor. Rather, it's about savoring the groove whatever the
style, keeping the vibe alive, and dancing your ass off. Highly
