We welcome Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe (Penumbral Aethyr) to our label for
the first time, as well as the return of Peter Verwimp (Ashtoreth), who
is no stranger to releasing with Winter-Light. These two well known
Belgian artists of the dark ambient scene present us with new immersive
ritual works. For this collaborative album, Ashtoreth and Penumbral
Aethyr were inspired by the link between a number of mythological
creatures from several ancient Cultures and their emotional
representations.Like Boreas, the rough and cruel God of Wind, Cold and
Darkness; Nephthys, Goddess of Birth and the Underworld; Ptah, the
original creator God in ancient Enneadic Cosmogony and Naiad, the Water
Elemental of the Earth. As such she can summon and control all water in
her immediate environment and manifest herself from that source.Water is
linked to the emotions and therefore they chose Naiad as the fitting
moniker for their album. These recordings are steeped in deeply felt
emotions and meditations on both personal and general reflections about
the state of the world and our place within it.The Belgian duo composed
these pieces using only hardware, electro-acoustics, voices and field
recordings. No audio plug-ins were used for the recording of 'Naiad'.CD
comes in a 6-panel digi-sleeve limited to 300 copies.
biography.: |
doom/drone/lo-fi/shamanistic/soundscape/noise/folk..... from Antwerpen,
Belgium A project in a search of a shamanistic perspective, channeling
at times minimal, meditativ drones; and at other a catharsis of doom,
noise and experimentation touching upon folk, post rock, psychedelica
and more. But always in a free form. After having spend time in numerous
bands and sound art projects, (Building Transmissions, Station Grey,
Stifled Cries, Maya, Code Ishan, Sombra DeBestia); collaborations with
Aaron Turner of Isis, Mary Bellamy, Douglas Park, SamonTakahashi, Carl
Michael Von hauswolff, Stephan Beck, Kris Delacourt, ...) ASHTORETH was
formed in Antwerp, Belgium during winter of 2010. After a first
performance at the Entree>Exit exhibition ASHTORETH was offered a
collaboration with underground fashion label Pelican Avenue, whom
dedicated a new collection of clothing to ASHTORETH's music. This was
presented at the Paris Fashion Week in March 2011 and resulted in a
singlesided LP by the name of 'ITOBIA', recorded live during the
performance, and was released in October 2011 by Pelican Avenue, limited
to 300 copies. ASHTORETH is a solo-project in search of a shamanistic
perspective, channeling at times minimal, meditative drones with layers
of meandering guitars and at others a catharsis of doom, drone, ambient,
folk, metal, noise and experimentation. always in a free and improvised
form. ASHTORETH is a one man's journey into the unknown, exploring new
sonic landscapes with every single live performance, sometimes
accompanied by projected film.
