Why "Between Lenox and Seventh?" It's the phrase that I
use to tell the cab driver how to get to Cone's place.
That is where the past, the present, and the future come
together as the spirits of the past and living legends on
the posters and pictures come alive and swing with us.
It's a place for us to shed and then express ourselves
through musical improvisation. It's where we get together
and talk about life, love, religion vs. spirituality,
and... the music!!! Not just Jazz, but all music and the
business of music. What sells vs. what's in your soul and
will you sell your soul to excel or why soulful singers
are watering down their sound while other singers are
getting big budgets to try and sound soulful.
Between Lenox and Seventh is an escape from all of that.
Cone and I got together and decided to have a good time.
The end result was a CD about life, love, religion vs.
spirituality, and the music. We covered all the bases of
love and life. God, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers,
friends, lovers, new found love, and lost love are all
there. Listen closely and you'll hear the life lessons of
two friends who have grown into brothers over the last 21
years. Listen closely and you'll hear the maturation and
evolution of two 18 year old kids who formed a bond a long
time ago on the campus of Florida A&M University (while
marching in the Marching 100) from just talking about
life, love, religion vs. spirituality, and...the music.
