multiple dutch turntable champion dj kypski (thomas elbers) and
c-mon (simon akkermans) know each from grade school. when they
discovered their mutual intrest in mixing cassette-tapes at the
age of eleven, they joined forces and started producing beats for
rappers. after some time of saving money for new cassetteplayers
and mixers, they could afford their first sampler. pretty soon
they realized that making beats for rappers stunted their creative
growth and they decided not to limited their music to hiphop and
moved forward as a duo. from that moment on beats, scratches and
atmospheres play a key part in their often funky compositions.
when a famous theatre in amsterdam asked kypski (who by then had
been part of zuco 103, sfeq, worked with hans dulfer and bart
suer, had won 4xturntablized, 1xdmc, 1x itf and competed in the
dmc world finals in new york) to do a so-called --testcase--, he
joined up with c-mon to take the challenge to bring their
studiomusic live to the stage in an interesting way.
multi-instrumentalist daniel rose and jori collignon on keys (both
from the band mitchell) were added to the live concept. by the
means of a small footsampler, the instruments and records are
sampled live thus creating an organic mix of funky beats,
instruments and scratches without the use of computers or
sequencers. after their first performances they won the 'festival
aan de werf' audience award, the holland casino let's play award,
and last but not least the winners of the essent music award.
