│Additional Information to Va - X-MIX-3-Richie Hawtin & John Acquaviva │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│Hawtin's 30-minute mix sounds like he's just getting warmed up. Taking │
│a more straightforward approach than on his excellent Mixmag CD, │
│he mixes new stuff from techno weirdo Fred Giannelli and Definitive │
│house maestro Barada with classic tracks like Speedy J's "Evolution." │
│He also throws in three of his own tracks: "Spaz" and │
│"Spastik" by Plastikman and "Loop" by F.U.S.E. vs. LFO. This mix of │
│old school and new stuff is cool, but it would have been even cooler if the │
│older tracks hadn't been such obvious choices. The mixing is flawless │
│and the tracks decent, but by Hawtin standards this is strictly average. │
│ │
│Acquaviva's set fares better. At 45 minutes, it gives him more room to │
│stretch out, delivering a diverse mix that takes in everyone from Detroit │
│new-schooler K Hand to Teutonic techno-meisters Hardfloor. Opening │
│with Sysex's soothing "At First Light," he keeps the mixing smooth │
│whether the tracks are hard acid or uplifting trance. Scanner, │
│Laurent Garnier, Speedy J and House Proud People all fall under his │
│spells. │
