release notes:
Olde Throne returns with its formidable third album, Megalith. Releasing
through Avantgarde Music, the album represents the band's most ambitious
and primal work to date.
Two years in its creation, Megalith is a primal journey into the depths
of prehistory. Where previous albums explored the strife of 19th-century
Ireland (An Gorta Mór) and the spectral lore of 17th- and 18th-century
Scotland (In the Land of Ghosts), Megalith delves into the primordial
darkness of the Neolithic age. Drawing inspiration from stories of
Celtic mythology, the album's narrative is rooted in tales dating back
as far as 10,000 BC.
The use of flutes, throat singing and tribal drums forges an immersive
brand of Neolithic Black Metal.
This album marks Olde Throne's first release with two songwriters.
Founder Harrison McKenzie is joined by Zannibal (Sammale, Marrasmieli,
Paisaunt), whose contributions have expanded Olde Throne's sonic
atmosphere. Zannibal's contribution to Megalith is characterised by
melodic lead guitars, atmosphere-laden synths, and Iron Maiden-inspired
basslines.
The drums on Megalith were performed by Tim Yatras (Austere, Germ). His
ferocious performance delivers some of the most intense and disciplined
drumming yet for Olde Throne.
Megalith is conceived as a single, unbroken auditory ritual. The album
is a continuous concept piece, with each track flowing seamlessly into
the next, demanding to be experienced in its entirety from beginning to
end.
