Alborosie returns with Nine Mile, his ninth studio album. Written, produced,
and engineered at his Shengen Studio in Kingston, the project blends roots
reggae with elements of bossa nova, dub, and 80s rock, shaped by two decades
of international touring, collaboration, and cultural exchange. It is now
available on vinyl, CD, digital and streaming platforms via VP/Greensleeves
Records.
ôNine Mile represents a journey within the magic of Jamaica, the culture, the
traditions, the sound. ItÆs also BobÆs birthplace, which gives it a mystical
energy. The message is to search for that Nine Mile place within yourself,
the secret hideaway, the safe zone where you can be who you truly are,ö says
Alborosie.
Alborosie recorded and performed nearly every part of the album himself, with
additional support from a few close collaborators including Aston Barrett
Jr., son of the late Wailers member Aston ôFamily Manö Barrett, on select
tracks playing drums and bass.
Nine Mile opens with ôCalling Selassieö, a rallying cry built around
Nyabinghi drums and an epic horn section. ôTrench Town Legendö follows as a
tribute to reggaeÆs birthplace, interlacing lines from Bob MarleyÆs songbook
into a homage to the musicÆs far-reaching and enduring impact. Elsewhere,
Alborosiebroadens his palette: ôCome My Wayö reimagines one of Augustus
PabloÆs signature productions, immortalized on ôKing Tubby Meets the Rockers
Uptown,ö as a lovers rock confession, while ôIpanemaöand ôGanas De Verteö
draw on sonics native to Brazil.
The riddim for ôDigital Love,ö produced by Frenchie of Maximum Sound, reworks
a sample of Johnny OsbourneÆs ôCurly Locks Girlö and reflects on the
emptiness of virtual (dis)connection. Two covers, Argentine band SumoÆs ôNo
Tan Distintosö and Jamaican singer Jimmy CliffÆs ôClub Paradise,ö extend the
albumÆs dialogue between eras. The title track, ôNine Mile,ö closes the album
in acoustic form, distilling its message to vocals and guitar.
The album arrives as Alborosie continues an extensive world tour with his
Shengen Clan band, following a run of summer festival appearances across
Europe and the United States. Upcoming performances include the Nine Mile
Latin America Tour this fall, with shows in Argentina, Chile, Mexico,
Colombia, and Costa Rica, followed by the Nine Mile Club Tour in spring 2026
across France and Luxembourg.
