ayro's latest ep features original and a capella versions of
"drink", an up-tempo, radio-friendly love song that captures the
classic pop soul of motown. by every definition, "drink" is pop
music, and through the single's hard pounding drum rhythms and
love-soaked lyrics, ayro uses his mastery of melody to lead the
listener, almost by hand, through the initial anxiety and eventual
sweetness of love.
ayro, a.k.a. jeremy ellis, is a true child prodigy and all detroit
soul. in may 2001, he lead a breakthrough performance at the 2001
detroit electronic music festival introducing his first single
"let this", which debuted on the omoamusic sampler one. the single
became an underground smash hit, and throughout the year graced
the top of the global dj charts, most notably of such luminaries
as gilles peterson, jazzanova, patrick forge, francois k, and dego
of 4 hero. he joins omoamusic after years of playing with detroit
legends jazzhead and as a session player for artists like aril
brikha and the time/space band on transmat.
