Brooklyn buddies Peter Matson and J Kriv first set out their
collaborative musical vision - a blend of nu-disco,
Afro-disco, boogie and house - via a fine 2021 EP on Dam
Swindle's Heist Recordings. Five years on, they've reunited
for an undeniably even stronger four-tracker on France's
Favorite Recordings. The headline attraction is undoubtedly
'Underachieved', a mid-tempo chunk of 21st century
bubblegum/Afro-boogie brilliance featuring a asublime lead
vocal from the mighty Ibibio Sound Machine. Yuksek remixes,
thrillingly re-inventing it as throbbing Moroder-meets-Italo
disco throb-job. Elsewhere, 'Facile (featuring Olivya)'
joins the dots between soul, horn-heavy Afro-disco and
squelchy nu-disco, while 'Ova Suffa', featuring Samy Love,
is a pitched down bubblegum-meets-reggaeton delight.
