In what kind of matter are we dragged in here ? A rumbling sound
like bubbling lava and on this a slack shuffle with piano- dots and
a yearning trumpet, telling us about the hustle and bustle of far-
away southern metropolis. "Blue Sand" is the title of the starter
drug on the first cash i/o- album: a soundtrack with style and
atmosphere. An instant later, in "Sunset" (which is also available
on 12" vinyl), weÆre rushing down a Californian highway, framed by
palms, the steadily throbbing bass signalling: the chase is leading
right into the streets of San Francisco. Then tracks with bleeps
and clonks, followed by a jazzy trip into improvisation - little
lounge lizards of songs.
Mastermind of cash i/ o is M.Flux aka Moritz Meschonat. The
straight striving of this guy is most clearly the valuable
artificial. This is made obvious especially by his projects in the
electronic scene of Cologne, an album with Dr. Walker, member of
Reissdorf Force, then a project with Burger; and stands for several
remixes, which quality made itself known up into the jazz-circles
of Bugge Wesseltoft. The four - men - project cash i/o includes
apart from M.Flux (sampling, synth) the musicians from Bochum
Norbert Vo▀iek, who stands for jazzy Rhodes- sound and joyful
improvisation, Michael Adamietz on the bass, who plays unbelievable
lines, and the master of sampling Michael Pieper. cash i/o should
be pronounced like the English Casio, but you might also think of
cash- yes / no. So chic - elegant the name of the band, so slack
and relaxed the sound. The trumpet does it, cutting into soft
chillout - meat, then placing dots, then describing a sovereign
curve. What the wellknown jazz - musician from Bochum, Jeff
Cascaro, gives in the opener and what several other guests on the
trumpet carry on, is electronic metajazz for spoiled city -
dwellers.
Warm, soft electronic, very relaxed, but very tricky in detail -
this album is an exactly calculated overall composition! cash i/o
cleverly slow down in the last third ("Fluffa", "Trip To The
Moon"), just to exult in the final with the lunatic basslines of
D-Funk" and then to softly fade away with "Chicago 59".
