Release Notes:

Music industry veterans Robert Moore and Megan Hamilton formed local label
Oxblood Records last year. One of their first major releases due in March is a
showcase of hometown talent. First Blood demonstrates the depth and quality of
bands in the Kansas City and Lawrence rock music scene. The lineup on the CD
includes The Golden Republic, In The Pines, Roman Numerals, Ghosty, The
Architects, Acousma, American Catastrophe, Lovers in Transit, White Whale,
Softee, Mi Corazon Negro, Olympic Size, Be/Non, The Ssion,
namelessnumberheadman, and Republic Tigers.

The Oxblood Records compilation release party is scheduled over two dates at
recordBar. The lineup for Friday, February 23, includes Be/Non, Ghosty, White
Whale, namelessnumberheadman. On Saturday, February 24, Roman Numerals, American
Catastrophe, In the Pines, Republic Tigers, and Lovers in Transit perform.

First Blood transcends the compilation format that major record labels extend as
a commercial hook, repackaging opportunity, or novelty. Instead, this disc
represents the assembly of a talented roster and documents the vitality of the
local rock music scene in its various forms. Equally important, Oxblood Records
secured the talents of engineer Paul Malinowski to ensure a solid recording.
Malinowski, who has made numerous records for local bands, was tapped to record
and refine the tracks at a new studio in Shawnee. He engineered this project
from top to bottom for consistent sound quality.

As part of the CD packaging, photographer Brandon Joseph Bakerûûa former Kansas
City resident who lives and works in San Francisco nowûûshot the images of
various band members in a simulated knock-down, drag-out brawl last September at
recordBar. The visual pun is apt, albeit tongue in cheek, considering how local
musicians support each other by playing in multiple bands, cover gigs on short
notice, and share equipment when need be.
