Byron The Aquarius has always infused his deep house tracks with elements
of jazz and musical Afro-futurism. Even so, this first outing on Skylax may
be the first time he has made these inspirations the headline attraction.
The title track itself is amongst the top tier of his productions (and
that's saying something), with Latin-laced hand percussion and gorgeous
electric piano chords riding a jazzy double bass loop and driving
kick-drums. The Alabama native opts to pump it out on stripped back deep
house dub 'Whatever Happened To The Underground', before joining forces
with regular collaborator MDMA on lolloping, Moodymann-influenced loop jam
'Dance With Me'. Best of all though is closing cut 'Sundays Ain't The Same
Dub', an ultra-deep, dubby and hypnotic affair rich in dreamy chords and
garage-house organ licks.
