Thomas Xu announced himself via a fine debut 12" on Sound Signature some
years ago now and has continued to impress ever since. Here, the US-based
artist returns to his own label Steady Flight Circle with na ew 12" 'The
Heart of the Matter', which comes in two versions, and we have both with
this one being the picture sleeve format. His deep house is always left of
centre and open 'Canteloupe Walk' shows the with its scratchy electronics.
'Windy City Produce' is a Theo Parrish style wonky, rugged, riding rhythmic
work out and 'Tauro' is bathed in abstract soul with live sounding drums
all knackered and imperfect. Three more cuts explore the intersection
between smooth and rough, between organic and synthetic, between rigidity
and fluidity. It's a forward-facing house style that taps into another
dimension.
