Is there a more under-celebrated producer in deep house than Alton Miller?
The Detroiter has been serving up sublime slabs of classy dancefloor
deepness for decades (he made is debut way back in 1993) and has recorded
for all manner of inspired imprints, but for one reason or another his work
has not been celebrated as much as many of his peers. As this
Quintessentials outing shows, Miller remains a master of his craft. Side A
is all about 'Last One First', a lightly spacey slab of richly electronic
Motor City deep house futurism that comes accompanied by the breezier,
warmer and lighter 'Life Recorder remix'. In contrast, 'Give It Up' is
gentler, sunnier and effortlessly soulful, with Shaka successfully
re-framing it as a lightly Latin-tinged slab of soulful house jazziness.
