▓ Pi-R-Square is a local band from San Francisco led by ▓
▓ the late keyboard maestro Lonnie Hewitt. Throughout ▓
▓ the '60s & '70s Hewitt played with many of the great ▓
▓ names in West Coast jazz, among them Cal Tjader, Paul ▓
▓ Horn, Preston Love and Mongo Santamaria. He also ran ▓
▓ his own independent Wee Records label, and one of the ▓
▓ records released early in the '70s was a little-known ▓
▓ 9 minute instrumental obscurity called 'Fantasy'. ▓
▓ Split into 2 parts placed on either side, the ▓
▓ original was only ever issued on a small-holed 7" ▓
▓ unusual in the US for this type of music - and this ▓
▓ bizzare slice of wax is also unusual in that it plays ▓
▓ at 33rpm. We have re-released it here for the first ▓
▓ time in it's full length as was originally intended. ▓
▓ Not every piece of funky jazz from the '70s is a ▓
▓ heavy piece from start to finish. Borrowing elements ▓
▓ from many styles and sounding well before its time, ▓
▓ the music here is of a unique conception. The ▓
▓ introduction is slow, slinky and deceptive - play ▓
▓ both sides from the beginning and you'll notice an ▓
▓ atmosphere building before a breakdown into one long ▓
▓ tough funky jazz groove with an excellent dreamlike ▓
▓ feel. Further breakdowns that cleverly lead into the ▓
▓ moody atmosphere generated at the start add to the ▓
▓ unusual style of this arrangment, making this ▓
▓ remarkable and timeless record essential listening ▓
▓ for any discerning music lover. ▓
