different drummer are proud to present the debut album by top
rocking combo phase 5. the album is a heady mix-up of bossa nova,
dancehall, exotica, hip-hop and just plain freaked out nonsense
ensuring that the 'space bar' is a musical atmosphere like no
other out of the southern hemisphere. also nestled nicely on this
album is a remix from german maestro burnt friedman (aka nonplace
urban field / b.f. & the nu dub players etc).
phase 5 is comprised of auckland and elsewhere producer angus
mcnaughton and dj stinky jim. formed after the dissolution of
their previous outfit unitone hifi in '96, the duo were originally
known as soundproof. under this moniker they recorded a highly
successful remix for close and unlikely allies high dependency
unit, as well as remixing digidub and levi roots and contributing
tracks ('phasing saddles' and 'mothman skank' respectively) to
different drummer (son of bastard tracks) and wreck this mess
compilations.
