state of monc (formerly known as monc) came into being in 1998, as
a result of a co-operation between hielke praagman and arthur
flink. from the very beginning the goal was to create a natural
synergy between electronic music on one hand and improvised music
on the other hand and the group is still working according to this
concept. state of monc is striving for a unique sound in which
both styles of music are equally represented. in order to create
such a sound, both acoustic and electric instruments are used in
combination with electronic beats and sounds. the group
exclusively plays original compositions, in which both form and
sphere play important roles. instrument solos and themes smoothly
fade into each other.
1999, monc won the first prize in "de popjacht" (dance category).
2000 the group reached the final of the most prestigious popular
music prize in the netherlands (de grote prijs van nl/grand prix
of the nl - dance category). the band is seriously working on
conquering a spot on the musical map. a spot where melody and
dancability as well as harmonical complexity and rhythm are not
colliding. at present state of monc has a one hour live
repertoire, based on material from the first album hand 2 mouth.
this album is due to be released in february 2002 via city
groovez/essential dance music
