on low noon, the debut album from vienna's purveyors of sweet but
creepy aural poison, shimmering pop surfaces stand next to heavy
beats and threatening whispers. no other toxic lounge track mixes
up these contrasting elements quite as radically as when sorrows
came. profound melancholia meets sunburnt guitar-lines straight out
of an italian western movie while kim jinas fantastically dreamy
voice is embedded in layers of subtle funkiness.
another tune that might be seen as something like the template for
the toxic lounge manifesto is their cover of serge gainsbourg's
lemon incest, which caused great scandal back in france when it was
originally released in 1984. here was the supreme master of musical
decadence indulging in a saucy pun-riddled disco duet with his
daughter charlotte, then still decidedly in her minor years.
now a handful of selected wizards of the mixing desk have worked
their magic on both of these tracks, taking the ambivalence of
toxic lounge, their constant oscillation between light and
darkness, beauty and sleaze further towards who knows where... some
exciting place.

devious core of monsieur gainsbourg's disco classic. here wolfgang
schl÷gl, their labelmate from klein records&mac226; sofa surfers
transforms the track into a dark and heavy dub rocker, assisted by
flow hackl, aka one half of vienna' s new groove sensation enduro.
