omoamusic. the greatest happening at this year's detroit
electronic music festival was the launching of this new label. matt
chicoine, known as recloose, and scott zacharias are behind it, and
want to put detroit on the nu jazz map alongside labels like
people, bitasweet, compost or sonar kollektiv. after some cdr's
circulating, omoa finally presses its first release on wax, which
features 3 tracks ready to storm the dancefloors worlwide.
dapp is: matt chicoine - known to most as resident cardiologist
recloose. scott zacharias - reowned selector, drummer, electronic
artist and eclectic detroiter. 'first off' is a tribute to the
first principle of butterbuns: make them bounce.
marc alphonse is: marc alphonse szymanski - in 1994, marc began
concocting beats with a casio sk1 he got when he was 8, a karaoke
machine, and splicing cassette tape together. these days, he is a
bartender by day and makes music in his underwear by night.
'contentment in humidity' is about all the nice things that make us
sweat.
ayro is: jeremy ellis - like his father and his father's father
before him, ayro has been playing the keys since he was a child.
former pianist for reowned detroit troupe jazzhead and a player on
transmat's time-space tour, ayro used to pay his bills by covering
stevie wonder tunes at a detroit casino. 'let this' is a musical
love letter, a response to an affair that travelled coast-to-coast.
