Since 1995 London based promoters Pranksters have raised the
ceiling of acceptance of underground clubbing with genre busting
nights such as the seminal Rumpus Rooms, Melting Pot and a host of
eclectic live / gig based promotions in and around the capital.
Hailing from East London, Brian Prankster, Pete Yak and Nigel 'MK
Ultra' Samuel have forged early friendships with many of today's
underground DJ/Producers at a time when they too were up and coming
talents. Dr Rockit (Herbert), Talvin Singh, Autechre, Amon Tobin,
Plaid and DJ Food all played at Prankster nights and helped move
the musical goal posts that little bit further in the process.
Already with one successful and critically acclaimed compilation
under their belts in the form of the Rumpus Rooms vol.1, the boys
have gone one step further by commissioning a new set of artists to
produce exclusive tracks to illustrate the fusion aspects within
electronica. Capturing what is natural, instinctive and progressive
these producers are not afraid to stretch and batter structures,
but they always respect them. The results can be heard on Infused.
OEInfused╣ is a showcase for the fusion exponents within
electronica - its a snapshot of some of the progressive sounds
emanating from studios nationwide where the producers wear their
influences on their sleeve. The artistes featured all possess this
quality and were obvious choices for this compilation. Ian
O╣Brien╣s tech jazz, owes as much to the Minneapolis sound as it
does to Weather Report and Detroit techno and Max Brennan (who╣s
track OEAraswati is a sitar lead percussive mantra, light years
away from his pisco-pied house grooves) can apply here an ear of
authenticity, while creating something unique in the process. James
Hardway, Jimpster, Plaid, and Sie also deliver tracks that are
slight left field of their normal outings.. This album goes some
way to summing up the Pranksters take on music, keeping it real,
acknowledging the past but always looking to the future. The
Pranksters will be taking Infused live, starting with the launch
party at London's Cargo on September 5th, before hopefully taking
the tour on to Europe, America and Japan.
