Release Notes:
Rabbit Is a Sphere was formed in July of 2004 as a democratic creative outlet
for a group of longtime friends. Having served time in innumerable Denver indie
bands, the four members of Rabbit Is a Sphere came together as a means to break
the rigid role-playing that takes place in so many bands. Songs are usually
written collectively, with each member adding their own mark to each song. And
though the songs can be disparate, there is a thread that binds them together,
an emerging aesthetic that shows the craft of songwriting in an open environment
can lead to interesting results.
Rabbit Is a Sphere is truly the sum of its parts, and as each member comes from
a different musical background, the influences that are heard in the music are
far-reaching. Rabbit Is a Sphere has been compared to Fugazi, Yo La Tengo, Joni
Mitchell, X, The Pixies, Johnathan Richman and The Modern Lovers, and The
Violent Femmes.
The band is nourished by a fanatic love of cinema and literature, philosophy and
science, devotion and doubt.
This is all made clear on their debut album, "Laps in The Sleep Saloon", which
was recorded at Notably Fine Audio in Denver by Colin Bricker, who has recorded
such acts as The Czars, Fred Frith, Ron Miles, and Porlolo.
The twelve songs on the album display that the members of Rabbit Is a Sphere
concern themselves with the human condition, not pigeonholing themselves into a
musical rut by conforming to a specific musical aesthetic.
