     Eddie Matos, one part of the infamous Mateo & Matos outfit, has been
     involved in music since a whopping 15 years, establishing the two
     M&M's as one of the longest lasting relationships in house music
     history - and one of the best!

     This album contains 6 house, 3 hip-hop tracks and 7 interludes. Well
     2 hip-hop tracks at the beginning will probably confuse everyone who
     expected pure deep house from Eddie Matos but don't worry enough
     house tracks will follow. :)


     Those who are fans of Eddie Matos, particularly in his usual
     production guise teamed up with partner John Mateo, might already
     know that we've already had one solo album out of him - 'Disko Method
     Ghetto Style' - an exploration of the New York house sound that he's
     become known for. This album, however, stretches his repertoire,
     combining hip hop, funk, latin, jazz and disco elements with a deep
     house foundation. First track 'Pass The Essence' is a smoker's anthem
     with moody beats, emotive strings and a lyrical flow that hypnotises.
     It's a pleasant and unexpected gift early on. From there Mr Matos
     slips into downtempo, mellow house territory via a brief 'Bring It
     Down' interlude and funky, hip hop cut 'Everyday Thing'. From the
     steady groove of 'Devastating' to latin-flavoured disco cut
     'Everybody' (Parts One and Two) it's pure groove. Some filtering
     comes into play with 'For Real', then there's gentle bongo action on
     'You're Mine', 'Rhodes And Drums' and the brilliant 'Afreeka'. The
     lush interlude 'Dreams' takes things uptempo to 'High In The Sky',
     while jazzy interlude 'All Jazzed Out' take things hip hop-wards into
     the final track 'Straight Out Da Slums'. In all, this album writes
     the story of Eddie Matos' past influences, absorbed while growing up
     on New York's Lower East Side and all moulded into a rich and
     flavoursome 16-chapter package. --Claire Hughes
