MIDI, and various electronic gadgetry, one often finds himself
drowning in a quagmire of digital domination and bombardment of
"quantized noise".
Enter, Hisa Ishioka's NiteGrooves imprint and it's well-spring of
releases, exceptionally-produced and designed for the more cerebral
listener; one who appreciates the organic, live quality in his or her
listening experience. Esoteric in it's style and discriminating in
it's appeal, the world of NiteGrooves claims its denizens from deep
in the heart of the Underground, where it's beats and rhythms
flourish as essential ingredients for nocturnal gatherings of those
who revel, basking in the warmth of its sprit and Vibe.
The latest installment in the MIX THE VIBE series marks a stylistic
turn to the left, incorporating selections from the ABSTRACT AFRO
LOUNGE and ABSTRACT JAZZ LOUNGE 1 and 2 compilations as well as
favorite selections from the King Street catalog masterfully blended
together and turned out by DJ/ Producer JOE CLAUSSELL, who is
critically-acclaimed for his live-sounding acoustic playing style and
touted as one of the great masters of today's turntable scene.
Oddly, until the last four years, most of Claussell's playing took
place in Dance Trax, a popular record store which he now co-owns
along with Stefan Prescott, located in New York's East Village. Joe
also utilizes his keen A&R instincts in operation of his own label,
Spiritual Life. As Joeφs reputation flourished, he eventually found
himself at the decks of one of NYC's most-frequented weekly parties,
"Body & Soul", where he shares the decks with Francois K. and Danny
Krivit as mavens of the vibe congregate every Sunday, reeling in
delight over the team's combined prowess at an event where the music
is definitely what it's all about.
Claussell transmits his message, capturing the essence of NiteGrooves
while embodying the spirit of Body & Soul for a ride that is at once
familiar, yet presented in a new light as he travels through his
selections of choice upon this spiritual journey. He combines the
passion and fervor of an ardent fan with all the seasoning and
experience that his life and times have molded and weaves a welcome
journey through soulful bliss, uplifting rhythms, riveting
countermelodies and the organic spontaneity of jazzy influences
