█ Funkstar De Luxe could safely be dubbed Denmark's prime █
█ international artist with a track record of success. █
█ █
█ He's called the king of remixes, and rightly so. The lad has █
█ remixed an impressive range of international acts including █
█ Bob Marley and Grace Jones on his debut album Keep On Moving █
█ from 2001. Since then, names such as Ricky Martin and Boy █
█ George have been added to the list. The single Sun Is Shining █
█ by Funkstar De Luxe vs. Bob Marley sold more than one million █
█ units and won an award for the best-selling international █
█ reggae single of the year at World Music Awards. An amazing █
█ and extraordinary accomplishment for a Dane. █
█ █
█ Now Funkstar De Luxe has put a new set of songs on the █
█ launching pad: Funkturistic. The title Funkturistic is a █
█ fusion of the words funky and futuristic and is a very █
█ precise description of the music on the new album. The set is █
█ a journey through Funkstar De Luxe's own musical universe. It █
█ alternates between variations of house and dance, but with █
█ room to squeeze in a down-tempo number. Each track reflects █
█ the Funkstar De Luxe signature. █
█ █
█ The new album, however, demonstrates a far broader range of █
█ Funkstar De Luxe's musical abilities. Whereas the debut album █
█ was a collection of remixes of songs by other artists - █
█ Funkturistic contains nothing but original tracks by Funkstar █
█ De Luxe, with one exception. Blinded By the Light is the █
█ exception. The song was written by Bruce Springsteen, but it █
█ was the version by Manfred Mann's Earth Band that grabbed █
█ Funkstar De Luxe's attention. The remix shows a direct link █
█ to the debut album, but the working method developed █
█ organically in the course of a year, with among other █
█ influences, a close co-operation with Manfred Mann himself. █
█ █
█ The leap from making remixes to producing his own songs led █
█ to a fruitful collaboration with two vocalists and █
█ songwriters, Little Tasha and Kirk Patrick Thompson. Little █
█ Tasha is often called Denmark's best female 'toaster.' She █
█ was an original member of the duo No Name Requested, along █
█ with Karen Mukupa. A fast talker, Little Tasha, is known for █
█ her rapid-fire sharp tongue. Kirk Patrick Thompson is a █
█ versatile musician from Jamaica Funkstar De Luxe met while he █
█ was working on the Marley single Sun Is Shining. At the time █
█ Funkstar De Luxe was still unsure about whether he would get █
█ permission to use the original Marley vocals, so Patrick was █
█ recruited to record the Marley song. As it turned out, █
█ permission to use the original was granted, so Patrick █
█ re-entered the picture in the making of Funkturistic. He and █
█ Funkstar De Luxe work exceptionally well together. █
█ █
█ Funkturistic is set for a world-wide release. The set may █
█ contain mostly Funkstar De Luxe's own compositions, but that █
█ did not stop him from taking samples from other tracks. As he █
█ sees it: "All the magic is in the original. That's just the █
█ way it is with samples, and you simply can't re-create the █
█ magic." █
█ █
█ Funkstar De Luxe doesn't keep secrets about his samples, █
█ unlike most other DJ/producers. There's no reason to -- once █
█ they're sampled everybody hears them anyway. Some of the █
█ samples are easily recognisable, but then it's difficult to █
█ find records that have not been previously sampled. So, this █
█ time around Funkstar De Luxe went through the rock archives █
█ and sampled the pub-rock band Smiff 'n' the Tears, just as he █
█ sampled "Blinded By the Light." Neither number had been █
█ sampled before. █
█ █
█ Encountering world-wide success for the single "Sun Is █
█ Shining" was something of a strange experience for Funkstar █
█ De Luxe. Not from the big city, he grew up with small-town █
█ smarts. All he wanted to do was show that he could do even █
█ more, but he had certain commitments. He knew he'd hit the █
█ bull's-eye and had to put the show on the road, so he did. █
█ Suddenly he found himself on a stage in Spain or appearing on █
█ an English TV show. He wasn't entirely convinced he was ready █
█ for all this. It turned out to be a year of DJ jobs, live █
█ gigs and interviews. But he's an individual who's at ease █
█ with himself, so he took his soul with him and made it █
█ through the storm of attention success had created. █
█ █
█ As a teenager Funkstar De Luxe dreamed of having a studio █
█ where he could sit and produce music. The dream has come █
█ true. He also got to see a better part of the world in █
█ touring for the debut album. All of a sudden he was a star, █
█ and not just in little Denmark! But the final curtain of his █
█ dreams hasn't fallen yet. Funkstar De Luxe's dream for the █
█ future is to be able to write and produce songs, and he's now █
█ living that dream. Funkstar De Luxe says, "I want to be an █
█ artist who helps draw attention to Denmark. I really think █
█ Denmark lacks high-profile artists. There haven't really been █
█ too many who have put Denmark on the map. It's always been a █
█ personal goal to create something that's still there when I'm █
█ gone." Today his goal is to work with many different █
█ international artists, and create music that moves people - █
█ music he'll be remembered for. █

█ Funkstar De Luxe's formal education makes him a technician. █
█ "And if I had continued down that road, I'd probably be █
█ sitting in a big corporation drawing blueprints for machines, █
█ or some dull thing. If I can make an impression on people █
█ with the music I make, well ... " █

█ This time around Funkstar De Luxe is well prepared to face █
█ success. With Funkturistic out in the whole world, one █
█ message is clearly written in the stars - busy, busy, busy. █
█ Still, there will be enough time for live performances with █
█ Little Tasha and Patrick. And there's room for lots of DJ █
█ jobs. So now he's really ready to be a funkturist with his █
