The first release from the AFTERHOURS label in 2007 is a new
album by the Japanese outfit Shindo. As one can guess from the
participation of the likes of Him drummer Doug Scharin, who
asked Shindo to open for his band during their last Japan
tour, "Unbound" offers an explosive and absolutely compelling
mixture of organic, groovy sounds. Elements ranging from folk
to flamenco and from Mississippi to the Middle East are being
combined skillfully so that they don't end up in a muddy style
mix as we often get to hear it in Japan, but form a totally
new, unique form of "world music". All lyrics are in English,
which contributes to the free and open feel of a kind of music
that is indeed unbound and far beyond existing boundaries, in
a musical, cultural and geographical sense.
