███▓ Theisalbum is the result of a collaboration between Sergei ▓███
███▓ Starostin, an iconic multi-instrumentalist, researcher and folk ▓███
███▓ music advocate, and Dmitry Butsykov, a virtuoso balalaika player ▓███
███▓ and the leader of the Samara-based folk ensemble Volga Folk Band. ▓███
███▓ The musicians worked together in several different ways. With ▓███
███▓ StarostinÆs involvement, Butsykov created the programme 'New ▓███
███▓ Skomorokhi'; the duo performed a series of concerts across Russia ▓███
███▓ with the programme 'Russian Raga'. In March 2025, a recording was ▓███
███▓ made during a concert at the Samara Philharmonic, Dmitry's hometown ▓███
███▓ venue, and it has since been released on digital platforms and on ▓███
███▓ CD.

'Raga' is a term from Indian culture. It serves as a foundation ▓███
███▓ for improvisation and for finding harmony, shades and nuances in ▓███
███▓ music based on an understanding of its meaning and knowledge. The ▓███
███▓ recording is precise and thoughtful, and the musicians are attuned ▓███
███▓ to one another and to the music. They neither delve into the depths ▓███
███▓ of the subconscious nor soar to the heights of psychedelia; ▓███
███▓ everything comes to the listener naturally.

███▓ Dmitry Butsykov is a musician of a new generation. He has worked as ▓███
███▓ a manager and organiser of musical projects, participated in ▓███
███▓ festivals and created original programmes of his own, such as 'The ▓███
███▓ Theatre of a Single Balalaika' (2021). It is fair to say that ▓███
███▓ Dmitry possesses a range of knowledge and priorities that is ▓███
███▓ unusual for the music community. For him, sonic diversity is a ▓███
███▓ tangible concept: he actively uses a pedalboard, a collection of ▓███
███▓ electronic effects, describing it as a 'creative cosmos'.

███▓ Sergey Starostin is the author of much of the material on the ▓███
███▓ album. He doesn't just perform music; he lives within it, creating ▓███
███▓ the folk music of his time and exploring how traditional art can ▓███
███▓ evolve. ▓███
███▓ Here, Starostin and ButsykovÆs goals converge, giving rise to ▓███
███▓ something new. Alexander Kharitonov (cajon) joins the duo on ▓███
███▓ several tracks, adding extra layers to the sound. ▓███
███▓ This album is a meeting of two universes, two generations and two ▓███
███▓ aesthetics, formed from a shared creative space born out of a love ▓███
███▓ of the same music. 'Russian Raga' is an exploration of authenticity ▓███
███▓ ù when a person experiences resonance and inner unity, resulting in ▓███
