Given that he found fame - and a dedicated audience of deep house DJs - by
spending six years recording exclusively as Retromigration, it's something
of a surprise to see Malik Kassim return to Wolf Music Recordings under his
given name. Musically, the Amsterdam-based producer is in fine form
throughout, sauntering between (synth) strings-laden huggable warmth
('Choices'), dreamy and colourful fusions of garage-house and more thickset
deep house chunkiness ('Hot Sauce'), bassline-driven deep house jazziness
(the lightly Italo-house influenced 'Flu'), and sample-rich rolling deep
house breeziness with added warm chords (the acid-flecked 'Gumo'). Name
switch or not, it's another classy EP from Kassim.
