Following three years spent finely tuning his trademark sound on labels
including Frank Musik, Skylax, MM Discos and his own Constant Change
imprint, Stuttgart's Jakob Mader lands on Freund Der Familie's vinyl
focused Paradijs Boogie. He's brought with him Matter of Time, a stunningly
emotive and evocative debut album that focuses more on mood, atmosphere and
texture than bombastic peak-time thrills and hands-aloft hedonism. That's
not a criticism though, because Mader's brand of deep house is undeniably
alluring - all bittersweet chords, meditative ambient-leaning pads, gentle
melodies, rubbery Italo-house basslines, tactile grooves, subtle nods to
dub techno and warming melodic motifs. There are plenty of club-ready cuts,
of course, but it also works wonderfully as a sun-soaked, mood enhancing
set of cuts to lose yourself in.
