They may be known for releasing revivalist boogie and synth-funk gems, but
recently Star Creature has been offering up nostalgic, analogue-rich jams
inspired by the formative house culture of the city in which the label is
based, Chicago. This seven-inch sees German producer ManooZ deliver his
tribute to the mid-80s Windy City greats, first via the TR-707 driven
heaviness of 'Jack The Bass', where sweat-soaked percussion fills, moody
spoken word snippets and a colossal TB-303 style bassline catch the ear.
'Time 4 Houze', meanwhile, sounds like it could have appeared on TRAX circa
1986, with lo-fi machine beats and a memorable bassline combining with
deep, spacey synths and the obligatory "house! House!" vocal samples.
