Earlier this year, without much fanfare or fuss, Nick Anthony Simoncino
launched a new sub-label of his long-serving Hot Mix Records imprint: Hot
Street. The first release came from Japanese producer Shin Watanabe, who
served up a mini-album of nostalgic, analogue-rich and sample-heavy cuts
called House 1986. Here Watanabe returns with a similarly minded sequel,
House 1987, a collection of cuts that variously draw inspiration from early
Larry Heard productions, formative Japanese deep house cuts, and the deeper
end of late 80s New Jersey garage-house jams. Highlights of the hugely
listenable (and undeniably club-ready) set include soul-soaked opener
'Traxxx One', the bleeping bliss of 'Traxxx Three', the sweat-soaked jack
of 'Traxxx Four', the Steve Poindexter-ish 'Traxxx Six' and the superb
'Traxxx Eight (Bonus Dub)'.
