   release notes:
Werewolf Promotion selects bands for their catalog very consciously. If
you're looking for a twist on classic black metal, devoid of unnecessary
experimentation, this is the place to go. Even if they could be
criticized for certain shortcomings, there was no denying their lack of
vision or commitment to underground ideals.
Hailing from Lower Silesia, Azels Mountain is the most interesting of the
three. It's a painfully honest black metal sound, tailored to good
standards, with pagan references. Eternal Dream, the band's second album,
lacks excessive ornamentation, but instead delivers a powerful yet
understated punch, weaving some melodic elements into dark themes. The
band manages to captivate both with its atmosphere and its energetic,
spirited approach. There's a lot of mid-tempo, marching tempos, some
slowdowns, but also a dose of pleasantly lashing, speedy riffs, nodding
to the mid-'90s but still relevant thanks to the undiminished power of
   certain patterns.
This music is as complex as convention allows, maintaining a certain
muddy clarity. "Eternal Dream" brings with it battle hymns, not dance
music. You won't find any extravagance or excessive variety here-that's a
classic in terms of the means employed-but certain transformations in the
riff structure, accelerations, and decelerations keep you entertained.
The band skillfully injects a touch of lofty, yet not pompous, melodicism
that blends perfectly with the pagan context. Even the acoustic "Kres"
doesn't clash with the chosen path, but adds interesting variety to the
   black metal landscape.
The Polish lyrics draw heavily on pagan references. Sometimes these
allusions point directly to Slavic ("Blood Payment") or Nordic ("Allfǫðr
o├░inn" - a cover of Enslaved with native lyrics), but more often they are
universal, directed against imposed religiosity ("It's been many years /
Blind shepherds' end / Roads somewhere to nowhere / You won't sleep in
the clouds"). The lyrics are blunt, but not without metaphors, and
there's no naive fascination with blasphemy - there's anger, but not
vulgarity. And because Nauthiz presents a variety of vocal techniques and
selects means to match the album's shifting musical moods, it enhances
the message and makes the album engaging. The uplifting backing vocals -
also delivered without pomposity - also add a dark tone.
All fans of traditional black metal with references to pagan roots should
be interested. Those who prefer innovation may not, though there's a
chance they'll be convinced. Of course, it adheres to certain canons, so
anyone who respects this approach likely won't be disappointed.
