Magic Opera return with "The Final Flight", the album that closes the
Amtork Saga fantasy trilogy.
Marco finished the lyrical concept with the title "The Amtork Saga", but
stayed calm in terms of composition. Although the final part of the
trilogy could have tempted to epic creative explorations, the Italian
keyboardist has opted for a matter-of-fact approach that will bring out
and emphasize all the typical elements. Consistency continues, Garau is
completely exceptional in his composition and therefore does not need to
change anything at all.
When listening to the more than hour-long recording, expect symphonic
power metal with generous keyboard registers. Of course, there are
specifically arched melodies, in which the melancholic fatality of French
chanson is mixed with the ostentatious pathos of power metal. Garau uses
a formula in which we can predict key breaks and melodic arches in
advance. This certainty gives us a calm, relaxed and pleasantly saturated
experience. If we accept the given game, we will enjoy accelerated areas
(preferably in connection with a good chorus), contrastingly calm
sequences and soothing interludes (preferably with a harpsichord effect),
gentle anthemic raids and fragmented, melodramatically structured solos.
Knowing that the album maintains a constant quality level (the good sound
production is also a plus), let's just "for the record" mention
extraordinary songs "The Danger's Growing Dark", "The Black Gem", "Unholy
Alliance", "When Reason Dies", "Immortal Glory" or "The Final Flight".
The charming bittersweetness of these songs is also enhanced by the
feeling that this is the last Magic Opera album. The Italian musician
cites as a reason his disgust with the current state, in which a huge
amount of time and money must be invested in each such recording, while
few people appreciate the resulting product, and people are also starting
to prefer music created by artificial intelligence. Let's hope that this
is a temporary state, because the head and heart simply refuse to accept
the reality in which this unique artist would never write anything again.
