Record Time opened it's doors on May 12, 1983 in East Detroit (now
Eastpointe), Michigan. In 1990 owner Mike Himes saw the beginnings
of what would be the Electronic music scene starting up around him.
Taking a personal interest in the music he opened the first of the
world famous Record Time Dance Rooms in the store at 10 Mile and
Gratiot. A store within a store dedicated solely to Techno, House
and Hip Hop music. When the Electronic music scene was still in its
infancy, he started Record Time Distribution in order to better
spread Detroit and Midwest Techno around world. Record Time
Distribution employed such famous DJs as DJ Munk, Dan Bell and
Claude Young. For a time John Acquaviva and Richie Hawtin's
Intellinet Distribution and +8 Records was housed in the back of
the Roseville location. Record Time has continued through the
years to have some of the scene's best loved artists working in the
store including Detroit's own Mike Huckaby who worked the Roseville
Dance Room for 14 years.
M3 is a lesser known label, named after a Michigan state highway,
connected with Record Time and Mike Huckaby (who did work for the
label) whose releases ran the gamut from techno & rave to the
deepest house sounds.
Alton Miller has been down from the very beginning, joining forces
with George Baker and Chez Damier to start the Music Institute, a
short-lived but legendary Detroit club. He then joined forces with
Derrick May, first as an employee of the artist's Transmat Records
label, then as Aphrodisiac, the title under which he would begin
releasing his music. Besides his EP on Transmat's sublabel Fragile,
he also released his music on Kevin Saunderson's KMS and a series
of EPs on Serious Grooves. By the mid to late '90s, he had
increased his presence in the Detroit area through a number of DJ
performances and a stream of stunning twelves.
Here Alton brings us straight garage (a1), abstract (a2), dtech
(b1) and disco (b2) flavours while keeping the quality high
throughout.
