    The  Platypus  Ensemble  has been  working  together  since 1997  when
    pianist Sid Hille assembled some of the best Finnish jazz musicians to
    play his compositions. Four  CD's have been published  since: Platypus
    (2000), Gestalt  (2003), Satsang  (2005) and  just recently  Life@Play
    (2007), a live-cd  including a documentary  video of the  band's tours
    between 2003-2005.

    The latest  development of  the originally  acoustic quartet  is a new
    repertoire  that  includes  string quartet  and  the  legendary Fender
    Rhodes electric piano  including wah-wah pedal  - so, a  move into the
    direction  of  70's  experimental  fusion.  Sid's  beautiful   melodic
    playing, Manu's incredible saxophone virtuosity, Ape's big bass  sound
    and Teppo's  limitless rythmical  creativity combine  in a  unique way
    that can only come out of  a place like Finland: firm roots  in nature
    and sincerity combined with highest technical development.
