This is a 12" that should not be passed up by any deep house fan.
It is a gem delivered by Losoul on Dan Bell's Elevate label. The
title track is a gritty late-night anthem that will rouse a sleepy
crowd to its feet. A steady 4/4 base line, a repeating muted synth
backed by a hit from a bass sax, and bongos through the break take
this track all the way through.
The B-side gives us the "Behind Closed Doors" remix by Detroit's
own Theo Parrish. A remix fitting of its own release, it takes
"Open Door" a little deeper. Not as driving as the title track,
Parrish slows the bass line a bit and adds a female vocal, along
with his own quiet synth line, retaining the sax hit. He gives the
track the drop of soul it's yearning for. It's not often that you
get a 12" with superior tracks on both sides, but this
collaboration of Detroit influence and Detroit legend give you just
what you are looking for.
