"Werk have been on a serious A+R mission recently, pulling
up the talents of Disrupt and the darkside bastards behind
Cloaks. Coming from the same gutter-step point of view as
DJ Scud's excellent Wasteland project, Cloaks add an
impenetrable layer of white noise and distortion to their
halfsteppers riddims and concrete subs for a truly grimy
urban sound. 'Hi tek buzz' piledrives the listener
straight into a steaming industrial workout comparable to
Errorsmith pissing about with Appleblim, right up our
street, before 'Darkware' shuts the door and turns the
lights off with an intensely claustrophobic k-holed
experiment before the beastly 'Virus' on the flip unfolds
into a bastard 2-step variant that could only be produced
in 2007, with less emphasis on the glitch rather than
seriously well done edits. Cloaks are definitely ones to
watch this year, fans of filth infected dancefloor muck
will be absolutely loving this... SICK."
